AmerikaNu dominates U.S. Travel SEO with Topical Authority

Executive summary

AmerikaNu is a Dutch travel company that crafts highly personalized journeys through the United States, built on decades of hands-on experience and deep local knowledge. While their product was top-tier, their online visibility didn’t reflect that. To turn brand authority into commercial traction, AmerikaNu partnered with Dok Online to develop a future-proof SEO strategy. Together, we built a content framework designed to attract high-intent search traffic and convert it into real bookings.

Our aproach

We began with a clear diagnosis: AmerikaNu’s site wasn’t aligned with how travelers actually search. After all, people planning a trip don’t follow a straight line. They search broadly (“USA road trip”), locally (“things to do in New York”), and thematically (“best road trips for families” or “historic cities in the U.S.”).

Many of those searches weren’t clearly answered on the site. The content was there, but not structured in a way that made sense to either users or Google.

To close that gap, we created the Topical Authority Blueprint. It effectively helped us bridge the gap between how travelers explore their options, and how AmerikaNu builds their trips. Built on the foundation of semantic SEO principles, it ensured that each page was connected in meaning, relevance, and structure. We grouped content by region (like the West Coast or New York), and by type of trip (road trips, fly-drives, themed experiences). We grouped content by region (like the West Coast or New York), and by type of trip (road trips, fly-drives, themed experiences). To build trust and authority, we also created supporting content that answered common travel questions — from practical tips to cultural highlights — so that AmerikaNu became the go-to source throughout the entire planning journey.

We rolled out the content one cluster at a time, starting with the most strategic regions. Each page followed a clear structure, used internal links to connect related destinations and guides, and included helpful images to guide the reader. We made sure the content was semantically rich and covered each topic in enough depth to answer real traveler questions. This approach not only helped AmerikaNu build trust with users and Google, but also made the content more suitable for AI-driven summaries and overviews.

Results

Real rankings, real traffic, with no ad spend

AmerikaNu now ranks in the top 10 for dozens of valuable Dutch search terms — both commercial and informational. They achieved this by restructuring content around U.S. destinations and trip types.

These include intent-rich phrases like “USA road trip California,” “vacation Colorado,” and “city trip New Orleans.” This visibility translated directly into growth: from around 3,000 to over 20,000 monthly organic visits, without relying on ads or backlinks.

Visibility across the full travel funnel

Instead of ranking for just a handful of product pages, AmerikaNu now shows up throughout the planning journey. From broad discovery terms (“round trip West America”) to decision-making queries (“best time to visit New York”) and local experiences (“what to do in Utah”), they built a presence that matches every stage of the traveler’s intent. This multi-intent coverage increased entry points and strengthened their authority in the eyes of Google.

Sustainable, compounding growth

Since launch, AmerikaNu’s organic traffic has grown tenfold, with a steady YoY increase of 30%. Each completed cluster created a new layer of visibility, which continues to expand into new regions like the East Coast and national parks.

With a healthy balance of commercial and informational traffic, AmerikaNu now ranks alongside — and often above — much larger players. The result is a sustainable structure for growth that keeps working, even as the search landscape evolves.

The strategy

AmerikaNu had the product: tailored U.S. travel built on real expertise.Their trips go beyond standard packages and are made for travelers who want a more personal, in-depth way to explore the U.S.

But online, that unique value didn’t fully come across. In a space dominated by global travel giants, their content didn’t surface consistently when potential travelers searched.

Some key topics were underdeveloped, rankings were volatile, and growth had started to level off. While the quality was there, the structure and visibility weren’t, and that limited their reach. AmerikaNu wasn’t looking to outspend the competition. They wanted to outsmart it. That’s when they turned to Dok Online.
