A foundation that still owns page one: the Budget Ongedierte Bestrijden story

Executive summary

Budget Ongedierte Bestrijden is a Dutch pest-control webshop competing in one of search’s most competitive niches: pest control, where established retailers hold the high-volume terms. In early 2023 the site ranked mid-page for the searches that drive sales, visible but rarely on page one where buyers actually click.

We worked together to improve their webshop SEO and built that foundation once. Three years on, the content still owns page one across the pest range, and now earns citations in Google’s AI Overviews.

Results

  • Three years on, the content still ranks at the top of page one for 90+ searches across the pest range, from mice and rats to flies.
  • Strong visibility in informational content, built on the foundation we laid in 2023.
  • Cited in Google’s AI Overviews for questions like ‘wat is de beste muizenval’ and ‘muizen in huis, wat te doen’.
  • Still holding on page one three years after the original build.

Our approach

We ran it as a competitive-niche e-commerce SEO campaign, built to last: a technical audit and measurement setup, on-page optimization, an internal-linking structure, and link building.

We started with a full technical and crawl audit. It surfaced slow load and high server response times, a fragmented crawl map with no clear pillar-and-cluster structure, product pages that did not link up to their categories, and pages buried four or more clicks deep. We turned the findings into a prioritized fix list so the site could be crawled and ranked properly.

In parallel we ran a round of on-page quick wins, the fast, high-value changes that shift positions without a rebuild: meta titles and descriptions rewritten around the target keywords and a clear reason to click, keyword-led alt text on product images, cleaner H1s, and internal links connecting related products and categories. These are what moved terms like “muizenval” and “muizen bestrijden” onto page one.

Underneath the quick wins we mapped the full pest search landscape and built the content to match it: 50+ pages, spanning the commercial category terms and the informational guides buyers search first, like what to do about mice in the house or how to clean up droppings. Every page fit the brand’s prevention-first positioning, with advice that favors the least-toxic option that works.

We also handed over a set of conversion improvements: on-site search that tolerates typos and suggests popular products, category pages that surface stock and create urgency, and clearer product listings.
